Danny spent his lifetime in the harvest. He went from toy combines and trucks to the real thing. His dad had him operating a combine at about the age of 11. He also learned how to service whatever machine he operated. He went on several years working for his dad, but he began to want his own equipment. When he was almost 17, his dad gave him the opportunity to own his first combine. At that time, he felt like he had it made but he didn’t realize what a responsibility he had. Delmas had to show him that bills, payments, insurance, and savings for the next year came before new pickups and fun stuff. Delmas trained him well. Danny and Delmas became partners in 1975. Because of school, it was a while before he was able to work fulltime in the fall harvest. Delmas made sure that harvest never took him away from school and school activities. Danny was very active in sports and FFA. Later on, he attended South Plains College for two winter semesters.

There were a couple of times he talked about doing something else, but was always ready for harvest when the spring came around. Danny was very dedicated to the business; in 1995, they took Buckie in as a partner. Things went on for five more years. God took Danny home on September 18, 2000. Things weren’t ever the same after that. Delmas and Buckie chose to discontinue Dobson Harvesting and Trucking after two more years of business.

We didn’t even realize how many friends Danny had in the harvest business until his death. There were so many people who came for the services. We had so many phone calls, flowers, cards, and letters from so many friends. Danny, Delmas, and Buckie were all members of the U.S. Custom Harvesters Association for several years. They thought it was an organization that was very much worthwhile for the custom harvester. I feel Danny has been missed by a lot of harvesters and friends, as well as his family. Thank you so much for the love you sent out to the family in our time of need and thank you for remembering him in this very special way. We will always be grateful!
