Hi all well im going to be hopefully starting a harvest operation just locally this year with one 9610 and a semi and tandem god willing the crops turn out good. I hope to make enough of a profit to get a grain cart and trailers to transport down south next year. Just wondering what the uschi would have to offer a very small operator like myself. Would like to here what other members with one or two machines think and if its worth while. I think the champ program would almost be worth it alone but with my small operation would it be worth it?

77 COMMENTS! I had a goal of at least 100 members taking the time to submit their comments for this petition. That means only 23 more will have to pull through to reach that goal. I think we can do better than 1/3 of the membership. Maybe I should increase my goal to 1/2!!! Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to do this. Surely, the people reading these comments are beginning to see how it affects our industry! The more voices screaming the cause - the better! Keep up the good work!!

Another place to check the progress of the wheat is the All Aboard Wheat Harvest site. The link can be found on our homepage.
Thursday, May 28, 2009 - 11:22 PM by: TZ
If you go to www.agweb.com click on the "wheat" link found on the left side of the page. There's a section that tells the progress of planting and harvest for the varied states. (at least it was there yesterday) This may help. From what I'm hearing, some places in OK may be as late as two weeks from now. Fall harvest will be started before we get home from Montana this year, I'm sure!

Thanks to all of you that have submitted your comments! Please pass the word along to anyone else that you know that hasn't yet submitted a comment and encourage them to do so!
I will be heading to Vernon,TX on Thursday. We are leaving 1 combine home for another week to finish up CORN harvest, The corn is dry now and has celebrated it's 1st birthday in the field. :)
Spring planting has turned into a disaster here in northern North Dakota, we received anywhere from 1 to 2.5 in. on Monday. With only 1/3 to 1/2 of the crop planted, the farmers need another good 10 days of dry weather to get the remainder in the ground.
I hope everyone has a good safe harvest, we will see ya out there.

YES!!!!
I'm starting to see some response from our members! There are now 19 comments listed on the Regulations.gov website. Thank you!! to those members who have taken time out of their HORRIBLY busy schedule to voice their opinion. This is YOUR way of letting the PHMSA know what's important to YOU and your business.
As you can see, there is now a link on the homepage of this site allowing you to print a copy of the instructions before you sit down to leave your comment. Hope this helps!
Monday, May 25, 2009 - 2:15 PM by: TZ
I think it must take a little while for the comments to be viewed. I'm guessing they must view them before putting them on their site. As long as you've followed the instructions and submitted them correctly, I'm sure they'll eventually show up. Thanks for taking the time to do it!!

does it take a little bit after to close and go back for your comment to come up.

I just posted a comment and it did not take that long, come on everybody get it done. If you want to print Tracy's instructions just left click, highlight the instructions, right click select copy and then paste it into a blank email that you can then print. We need lots of comments, and they can be short and sweet, just get it done TODAY.

Please try to submit your comments on the Petition for Exemption. We are all getting busy now, but it only takes a few minutes to get this done. If we all comment on this it may pay off for all of us USCHI members.
Thank You
Kent

Apparently my first posting with the step by step process for leaving comments to the Regulations.gov page was confusing. I will try to give you better instructions and see if this helps. Maybe I can type something up in "Word" and have it accessible on the home page so you can print it before you sit down to leave your comments. Here goes:
1. Go to www.regulations.gov
2. In "search documents" (found on the first page of the website) type in phmsa-2009-0099. This will lead you to the next page.
3. At the bottom of this page, you will find the "U.S. Custom Harvesters, Inc. - Petition for Exemption". Click on "Send a comment or submission" - which is highlighted in blue.
4. The next page is the "Public Comment and Submission Form". You can actually view the document from this page by clicking on the "pdf" character (red & white). After completing all the information and typing in your comments, click on "next step" which is under "ACTION" found at the very bottom of the page.
5. The next page allows you to view what you submitted, make any changes to it and print it if you want to keep a copy. Click on "submit" which is found at the bottom of the page.
6. The final page gives you information regarding where the comment will be directed to, etc. Click "close & go back". This will take you back to the original page showing comments and the petition.
I hope this helps! If not, send me an email at jz45239@windstream.net and I'll see if I can help. Thanks for taking the time to do this! It looks like we still only have eight comments and over 300 members. If we want this changed, it's going to take a larger voice than just a few!
Friday, May 22, 2009 - 10:17 PM by: TZ
The only way I can check it is to go back to the beginning page that follows the "search documents". As far as I can tell, the better one to check is the "advanced check" function. That's where I see more names being listed.

I did not get a tracking number but it said my comment was submitted, any way to check it?

Was able to leave comment on fuel tank restriction. Site seems to be up and running. Be sure and get your comment tracking number so you can follow it.

Anthony - I see you are one of eight of us that have left comments for the PHMSA - Thank you! And thanks to the other 6 that have done it, as well! I hope more harvesters will take time to do it too. It is important to the industry!

I really don't know how they handle the postings. I saw one other one yesterday and today it's not there. I want to encourage everyone to leave their comments. I know we had a glitch yesterday with the "search documents" function not working and last night the entire site was down. PLEASE don't get frustrated enough with them and not leave your comment. I'm guessing if you made the comment, it will eventually come through. It may not hurt to try again today simply because of the problems they were having yesterday. Thanks for taking the time to do it the first time!!
Thursday, May 21, 2009 - 11:01 PM by: Anthony Adams
I left a comment submission on the page, looks like it doesn't show up right away? From what I read after the submission was completed, looked like it could take a while to post. Is that correct? Or should I try and resubmit my comments on the petition?
Thursday, May 21, 2009 - 11:12 AM by: TZ
I've had several emails regarding the regulations.gov website and not being able to "search documents". It appears that the website is having troubles with that function. PLEASE keep trying!!! Hopefully, they'll get it fixed soon.

URGENT.....URGENT.....URGENT....URGENT!!
The PHMSA received our petition for rulemaking request regarding the hauling of 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel. It was posted on the "Regulations.gov" website and they are now accepting comments. We need to blast them with as many comments as we can to make them realize just how important this issue is to our industry! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE go to Regulations.gov and type in PHMSA-2009-0099 in the "Search documents" section on the site. This will take you to the page that has the petition and any comments that have been left (either in support of the change or against it). The petition can be found towards the bottom of the page. You can read the petition by clicking on "view this document" found near the bottom of the page. To submit a comment, click on "send a comment or submission". The next page will list the information required from you, the submitter. Make sure you follow the directions all the way to the bottom of each page and complete your submission before exiting. As it stands right now, we are only allowed by law to haul 119 gallons of diesel fuel without a HazMat and Tanker endorsement on the class A CDL. This petition is asking for changes in the law that will allow us to haul up to 1,000 gallons. I realize this is a HORRIBLE time to sit down and do this.......but WE MUST!!! We've gone to all the work to get it to the right people - now it's up to you to let them know just how important this issue is for our industry (for YOU) and that a change is needed!! We've got to make it clear how important this is so PLEASE do your part!!!! Thanks!

I hauled my combines down state Oklahoma Saturday. Got situated and ready to go. Spoke with our customer Saturday morning and was pleased to hear that we'll be cutting as much as we cut last year. The wheat looks better than I had thought it would, however the freeze damage is evident. But I think that we'll see some fair to good yields regardless. I saw some white caps that actually put a few grains in the lower mesh and heads that I thought would not be making alot of grain, were pushing 3 and 4 grains a mesh in the middle of the head. The wheat was starting to turn, and most of it is past the milk stage. Most of the wheat is setting up a pretty hard dough already. I'm hoping to be cutting by mid week next week. Hows everybody else coming along with their stops? Anybody cutting in Texas or southern Oklahoma and if so whats the freeze effects? Heard an Arizona report the other day, anybody cutting out there?
